Green Tourism Brings More Guests

Many traveler’s today are making their destination choices based on the eco-friendly business practices followed by your hotels and attractions.  As fellow citizens in a global world, they not only want to protect the environment—they also want to know that you are doing so also. The session today will outline some of the essential things that you can do to make your property more attractive for these guests, as well as show you examples of what others are doing so.

Agritourism expert Jane Eckert, an agritourism guru, first got interested in Green Tourism when she saw the benefit to farmers of selling more of their crops locally to restaurants.  Jane’s belief is that going green begins with eating green. She will share with you many other insights she has gained that will help make your destination more attractive to these travelers.

Agritourism: Growing High Yield Tourism

If you think that “High Yield Farms” just refers to crops, you need to attend Jane Eckert’s daylong workshop about the fast-growing Agritourism business now blossoming in North America. Agritourism attendance is expected to grow over 30% in the next decade, as urban dwellers flock to the farms to educate their children and revisit their roots. Come learn how the top two industries in your state, agriculture and tourism, can work together to achieve an even greater share of the market.

As tourism professionals, you’ll learn about agritourism from the farmer’s perspective, preparing you to engage your farm partners in working together to develop their product and more marketable packages for tourists. Presenter Jane Eckert is one of North America’s leading agritourism experts, and will be sharing how other regions in the U.S. and Canada are building tourism destinations around agritourism producers, ranches, farm trails, winery trails, and agriculture clusters.

A valuable portion of this workshop will be the opportunity to meet and hear first hand from several successful producers in your state. Time will be provided for the tourism professionals to brainstorm as to how to expand the agritourism product niche in your area.
